Hello everybody. Welcome to this week's episode of the Main Street Talk podcast, your go-to podcast for all things Walt Disney World related, all the news and the updates on all the parks, the refurbishments. My name is Nick, and as always joining me is Joanie.
Joni:Hello everyone.
Nick:So I don't know about where you guys are at, but where we're at summer is hanging on tight. It is 90 degrees out here every day and I am ready for fall weather and it's just not coming.
Joni:you can get fall weather if you just come down to the lower level'cause it's cold down here. I right now currently have a little space heater on me.
Nick:We record in our basement and uh,
Joni:a finished basement, but nonetheless, it's cold.
Nick:chilly'cause the. Air conditioner seems to blow. All the vents are closed, but the air just seems to blow out very hard. Even I don't, I don't know how to fix it, but it's cold down here. But yeah, we're, I'm ready for fall weather. I've hung out the Halloween lights and got all the, the pumpkin light out and everything. Yeah.
Joni:Have our little Mickey pumpkin face in
Nick:do. We have the Mickey pumpkin
Joni:skeleton body. Yep.
Nick:That's a new this year. I found that at Walgreens I had to, I had to buy it. Yeah.
Joni:Yeah.
Nick:We are gonna be kicking into Halloween extra hard this year because guess what Disney did this week?
Joni:Well, I am gonna gander a guess that it has something to do with the big wide open ocean.
Nick:Yes. Something to do with the high seas.
Joni:And
Nick:as a travel advisor, didn't even know this. This was a complete surprise by Disney. So from September 19th through September 25th only. So by the time this is airing, this will air on the 22nd. You only have three days left from the time this airs. Disney has knocked off 40% of cruise prices on select sailings from October 17th through December 19th.
Joni:Mm-hmm.
Nick:So what Joanie and I did, we booked one,
Joni:We sure did.
Nick:we got on and we said. We, we can't pass this
Joni:and I did not have to pay my travel agent.
Nick:Well, nobody pays their travel agent. It's all included in the price free service. But, um, but anyways, yes, we saved about, about$1,100 with this 40% off. Yeah, just for the two of us. So we booked a cruise. We're going to be going on the Disney Dream on the Halloween
Joni:Yeah. And I know in a previous episode we were talking about, you know, getting opinions on being our first cruise. Like if our listeners would do a,
Nick:a regular teamed
Joni:cruise or a regular cruise, and we just kind of bit the bullet and here we go. Yeah, happy Halloween.
Nick:I started looking at prices and I was like, 11 and we're saving$1,100. You know, now this is a, the state rooms are. Sure there was restrictions on them.
Joni:right? They choose,
Nick:you cannot choose. Your own payment has to be done at the time of booking. It's non-refundable, but you can still buy travel insurance and all that. So, if you wanna book this and I suggest you do because we jumped right on it, contact me, nick.Garcia@academytravel.com. And you can even come on the Disney Dream with us on the same sailing as us. And we can have, we can have be trivia partners.
Joni:that's right.
Nick:go to Pirate Night together.
Joni:that's right. We're already looking for our costumes. We're, we're excited about it.
Nick:So yeah, that is, that grabbed I think everybody by surprise, that's, you don't see Disney doing 40% off of anything very often.
Joni:and Nick always, before he approaches me with something, some sort of an, an excursion or travel, they're never really like surprises for me. I mean, well they are because he'll do a lot of the research on it, and then, but once he has all the questions that he knows I'm gonna ask, then he'll approach me. Ask me, what do I think
Nick:do write it in pencil.
Joni:So,
Nick:so yeah, get contact me. That's just an amazing deal from Disney Cruise line. Um, yeah, for sure. But yeah, let's, get into the news. The news is gonna be a little different this week. We always start a magic kingdom, but this week we gotta start an animal kingdom
Joni:kingdom. Aw,
Nick:and there's some, some sad news outta Animal Kingdom.
Joni:So
Nick:get the bad news out of the way first. So Gino, the Silverback gorilla, the most senior gorilla in Animal Kingdom has passed away. He was 44 years old. So former Imagineer, Joe Rodie, if you don't know who Joe Rodie is, he's very famous Imagineer. Pretty much he built Animal Kingdom.
Joni:Um, he
Nick:he announced the passing on Instagram and he wrote in part Gino the Gorilla has passed away. He was the silverback leader of the gorillas at Disney's Animal Kingdom for a generation. Gino was a true alpha male. He was powerful, gentle, humorous, kind, and a patient partner to his minders, a great father and a great model for the young males in his life. So Gino has been at Animal Kingdom since the opening?
Joni:yeah. And he's got a, he's got quite a few children.
Nick:Gino Fathered, 14 offspring and two of the daughters are still there.
Joni:Mm-hmm.
Nick:Mm-hmm. So now in addition to this, I mean, this is terrible news. If you have not watched on Disney plus the magic of Disney's Animal Kingdom, it's a Nat Geo slash Disney plus production.
Joni:Yeah.
Nick:It's a great series. I mean, if you like Animal Kingdom, it's a must watch. But in season one, episode three, they have a, a special for Gino. It's his birthday.
Joni:his birthday
Nick:And they make him, yeah, they have a birthday party for him and they make him a birthday cake. But yeah, they do, you know, the cake's made out of him. Foods, gorillas eat, of course. And, uh, if you have not watched that, watch it. And also the very first episode of the series, season one, episode one is about baby gorilla grace. Which is Gino's offspring.
Joni:Yeah.
Nick:So we hate to bring the sad news.
Joni:I think once we found that we just binge
Nick:oh, we binge washed it like less than a week and it was, and it's two seasons.
Joni:It was ridiculous.
Nick:Yeah. But yeah, go. We watched it
Joni:it like it was our job and then still did our job.
Nick:So, yeah. Sad news on Animal Kingdom, but he, you know, those, and you find out if you watch that series, how well these animals are taken care of there. I mean, they're, they're spoiled. Yeah, They're,
Joni:are, they're very well taken care of. And what is the, longevity of life in the wild?
Nick:I, I don't know. I, I don't know.
Joni:I'm sure that because of the care and the maintenance and the treatments and whatnot that
Nick:He, he may have outlived the, uh.
Joni:diet and
Nick:He may have outlived the, the wildlife
Joni:I bet he did. Yeah. But he is massive. Yeah. His arms are my goodness,
Nick:his Silverback. Yeah. So. Yeah, go check him out the, like I said, season one, episode three and you get to see Gino's birthday
Joni:party. Yeah. And it is kind of comical because he gets into it with the kids. It's kind of like a real, it's kind of like a, a human dad
Nick:or human
Joni:with their children.
Nick:they bring the birthday cake out and pushing
Joni:pushing his buttons and he's just like, oh, other
Nick:the other girls are looking like through the trees. Like what you got over there, Gino? But nobody messes with him'cause he is silverback
Joni:finally the kids come up and
Nick:he kind of walks away.
Joni:he's like, whatever I give up, it's cute. You guys should go watch it. And there's other animals on there too.
Nick:Oh yeah. It's, it's great.
Joni:got rhinos, it's got hippos, it's got
Nick:and what you see a lot of in that, series is, you know, if you're an animal kingdom and you go to the Rafiki Planet watch, they have the veterinarian clinic over there, but they have a lot on that show, shows procedures done in that building. Yes. So, and, and you see people in the back watching them on the other
Joni:think one time somebody had thrown something in one of the tanks in a, was it a turtle or somebody, something, something? I can't recall right off the top of my head.'cause it's been a while since we've seen
Nick:these Yeah.
Joni:But, um, they had to go in and extract this out of
Nick:the stomach. Yeah. Yeah. I remember that. I, the, the most memorable one I think I remember was, um, they had to, the draft, they had to do some work on the draft's foot. They had to file down his hoof or something. Yes.
Joni:yes.
Nick:putting a draft to sleep is not,
Joni:it takes an army.
Nick:takes, it was like, there was like 20, 25 people putting this thing to sleep because their necks can't bend.
Joni:Yes, yes. You have to support the neck because, and they had to lay it down and just try to even just get it corralled into the area that it needed to. Uh, it was just, and if it wasn't, if he wasn't going, then they gave up and tried another day. It was just a waiting
Nick:game. Yeah. They, they.
Joni:of those
Nick:they tried to lure him down this pathway so he would take the, the sleepy medicine or whatever it was, or No. To get him in position to get his foot. And he, he never, he, he was resisting the, the bait. Yeah. He was like, nah, I ain't going
Joni:knew. He knew.
Nick:So they had to put him
Joni:But it is a really cute show.
Nick:is. They,
Joni:they, they go ba basically through all the animals. I mean, I've seen the Yeah, the painted dogs, they have, you know, something with that. It's so,
Nick:and these are, yeah. We ran into, at Animal Kingdom, the doctor and a couple of the, the cast members that, that are on the show. So yeah. A lot of'em are still there.
Joni:Yep. When we took our grandkids, we were on the guerrilla walk and the trail and ran into them. It was,
Nick:So go check that out. Gino's birthday party. All right. Over Magic Kingdom, the refurbishment of the Adventure Land sign at Magic Kingdom is complete and all the props are back. So the sign was removed in early August and the structure has been reassembled and the brand new fabric sign was installed.
Joni:Oh, good.
Nick:And at Epcot, Disney released the full list of celebrity narrators for the candlelight processional at Epcot. The celebrity narrator tells the story of Christmas, accompanied by a 50 piece orchestra, the voices of liberty and choir of cast members and community singers. New narrators this year include Constance Wu, Jennifer Garner, Henry Winkler, Bree Larson, and Cheryl Lee. Ralph.
Joni:You know, we still have yet to, you just said the Voices of Liberty. We still have yet to see
Nick:No, we haven't. We've never seen them. No, but we, we like, I don't know. Our Epcot days are weird. Like they're weird. They're weird.
Joni:That's all. There's just so much to do
Nick:a, that's a big
Joni:and we don't even, we don't even consume alcohol, but there's just so much to do.
Nick:so much to do and It's it's so, big. I
Joni:you wouldn't think so, but there really, really is. I mean, if you wanna look at everything
Nick:wanna get around every single country and every single nook and cranny in those countries, it's, it's a two day, or at least,
Joni:yeah.
Nick:And also at Epcot, Santa Claus is moving his meet and greet location to Communo Hall for the 2025 Festival of the Holidays. For the last few years, he has met guests inside the Odyssey Pavilion.
Joni:Mm-hmm.
Nick:The meet and greet is scheduled to take place from November 28th through December 24th, and the times for Santa meet and greet are 11:00 AM 12:30 PM 2:00 PM 3:30 PM and 5:00 PM
Joni:And these are all Eastern times.
Nick:yeah. Yeah. These are all Eastern time Local to, Disney World time. Okay.
Joni:I wonder why they're moving it from an indoor to an outdoor. So he's outdoor. Gonna be
Nick:no, no. He's in cam Court Hall. He'll be indoor. Oh
Joni:Oh yeah. Yeah. Duh. Okay. Yeah.
Nick:So that's it for the news. That's it for Park News. Sad news about Gino, but do
Joni:You don't have anything for Hollywood Studio?
Nick:for Hollywood Studios. I have some miscellaneous news, but that's it for the park news.
Joni:news. Okay.
Nick:So for miscellaneous Lenius, Disney has announced in early 2027, the refurbishment dates for the Disney skyliner. So it will be closed January 24th through January 30th, 2027. And as always, when they close down the Skyliner, the buses run from those skyliner resorts.
Joni:So
Nick:if you're planning on 2027, they have not released the dates yet for domestic, um, domestic customers. I think they have their international, but, um, just keep that in mind. If you're staying at the skyliner January 24th through January 30th, Skyliner will be closed.
Joni:Do they run extra buses when that's when that's down? Because those buses can get
Nick:they get full.
Joni:and those skyliners are so convenient. I mean, having that central hub right there is just
Nick:I don't
Joni:because we, you can use that to get to any park to other than animal kingdom. You have to take a bus there.
Nick:The Skyliner. Yeah. Skyliner goes to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. That's
Joni:No, that's what I mean. You cannot use a skyliner to get to Animal kingdom. No,
Nick:no, no. Right. Yeah. have to use a bus. You have to use a
Joni:But what I'm saying is that those skyliners are relied upon very heavily
Nick:Very heavily
Joni:for traffic flow. So I wondered if they're gonna have extra buses. They could. I bet they do.
Nick:They could. We found out the hard way when we went to Jo Wood Knights. We, before our animal Kingdom day, we stayed at pop, remember? Mm-hmm. Yeah. So we go to Jolly Wood Knights for the Skyliner, took the Skyliner there, didn't take it back because they don't, they don't stay open for Hollywood
Joni:No, they do
Nick:So we had to get on a bus, which was fine, but,
Joni:but it was very packed. It
Nick:was very packed. But, um. That was the whole reason we stayed at pop that night. Yeah,
Joni:But pop's fun anyway. Pop
Nick:is fun. I like pop. And also miscellaneous news. This is big too. Florida residents can enjoy a specially priced three day three park, Walt Disney World tickets starting at$70 per day. That's starting price. So the total price would be 210. The ticket is valid for Epcot Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom. Magic Kingdom is not included in this ticket price. the special ticket can be used from October 5th through December 23rd, 2025, and the whole ticket holders are required to make a theme park reservation.
Joni:so, oh, wait, wait, wait, wait. Back up. So you get three tickets.
Nick:three days.
Joni:day tickets. Is that, oh, okay. Yeah, so you can visit any of those parks. You can make it a one day if you'd like
Nick:to. Yes.
Joni:But still that, that is really inexpensive because if you just, even if to add in your Magic Kingdom ticket on top of that price, it's still cheaper than buying all the all four tickets.
Nick:for, for those three parks is pretty, and that's starting price again, but still.
Joni:but you do have to have a reservation for
Nick:do you got'em? Yep.
Joni:Now normally that is not required, but in this instant
Nick:this sense, uh, for this ticket, it is there, there are, um, you
Joni:because we get questions sometimes about Right. Do I have to, uh, reserve right my park day? And that is no longer a
Nick:normal date based tickets? That is correct. There are some tickets. You still have to, and this is one of, this is a perfect example.
Joni:But just like anybody contacting you. Does not need a reservation, a
Nick:date based ticket. No, they do not. If you're traveling from. Wherever, Ohio or, or it
Joni:the difference in pricing there? If you're saying it starts at like, what's
Nick:included dates? The The dates. Yeah. Just like the normal. Just normal tickets. Yeah. Sure.
Joni:sure.
Nick:And also to go along with this, Florida residents can take advantage of.
Joni:of,
Nick:Disney World Hotel offer for the winter of 2025 with nightly rates starting at 129. Now the 129 is gonna be for all star sports, and it'll go up from there depending on what resort you stay at. But these are good. Most nights from November 16th to November 29th, and most nights from December 12th to December 25th. You must be a Florida resident to get this price and the credit card or payment method that you use. Must have a Florida billing address and minimum stay one night, maximum stay 14 nights.
Joni:Mm-hmm.
Nick:And this next bit of news, I'm gonna age Joanie and, and myself here,
Joni:so you can get those three day tickets. I'm trying to, I'm trying to put together a little package here. So if somebody wanted to do those three day tickets mm-hmm. And stay at one of the hotels, that would be like a perfect vacation
Nick:package. Mix and match'em. You're getting,
Joni:You're getting discounts on the park tickets as well as the discounts on the
Nick:the room. Yep.
Joni:Hey,
Nick:Florida residence.
Joni:We should move to Florida
Nick:maybe?
Joni:Oh yeah, I could, because I guess that would be specific for Florida residents, but yeah. Okay. Mm-hmm. And
Nick:And I'm, like I said, I'm gonna date Jonie and I here. Do you remember the Muppet Show?
Joni:been dating me a long time. What are you talking about?
Nick:I have been dating you a long time. It's the best
Joni:Do I remember the Muppet Show? Yes. Yes, of course. Muppet Who
Nick:was on what was on Sunday morning. Well, a lot of people maybe listening to this don't remember it. Oh, you
Joni:you mean like they know the Muppets as in today's Muppets?
Nick:No, no, no. The Weekly Muppet show that was on when you and I were kids. What? They're, it's coming back. Well, hold on before you get too excited. Disney announced the Return of the Muppet Show on Disney Plus in 2026. Okay. It is, um, a one night special to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the show. The last episode of The Muppet Show aired in 1981.
Joni:Mm.
Nick:People online are hopeful that this is a big success. And, and
Joni:yeah, because then they'll keep
Nick:and they, and they make this and they make this Yeah. A thing.
Joni:I think I'm gonna have to bust out the VCR and tape it. We gotta go buy some VHS tapes. Where do you get those anymore?
Nick:Disney has not said it. The
Joni:shop, you gotta go buy'em at the pawn shop.
Nick:They have not said anything about continuing it, but the special will be on in 2026 to celebrate the 50th anniversary.
Joni:Wow.
Nick:Yeah, I used to watch that when I was little. I
Joni:That's neat. What were you like two? Well,
Nick:they kind of, I think they showed reruns, you know, for a while after that.
Joni:but
Nick:But I totally remember it. It was like a variety
Joni:Uh.
Nick:Uhhuh like a, a Carol Burnett show. I'm dating myself again. Yeah. But like a Carol Burnett show with Muppets is
Joni:But you know what? Hey, I think I've seen every episode of The Golden Girls. You know, so whatever. We've watched a lot of little sitcoms all the way through, so why not children's programs? You know, I used to love Frugal Rock.
Nick:I watched Frale Rock,
Joni:um, my Little Pony and the Smurfs,
Nick:watched The Smurfs. I did not watch My Little Pony. Oh,
Joni:want My Little Pony. Well.
Nick:alright. Well that's it for the news.
Joni:Okay.
Nick:That was kind of a lie. It didn't Yeah. Look like it was gonna be that much on, on paper here or on my screen, but went through it.
Joni:Yeah. Well those, vacations packages are
Nick:a lot of, they're very detailed. Yeah. Contact me, we'll get you booked, especially for that cruise man. That's, that's big
Joni:yeah, we couldn't pass it up. Now we do have a cruise planned for next year, which we thought was gonna be our first Disney cruise, and then this popped up and Nick says, it's only good for a week. And I was like, he goes, am I pulling the trigger? Am I? So that's what we did. So it should be a good time though.
Nick:Yeah. We will definitely report back on our first Disney cruise for sure.
Joni:And, and we did, we did put in, we're having a, we're getting a veranda.
Nick:Yep. Getting the veranda room. Yeah. It was, if you wanted to get the inside state room, it was really cheap.
Joni:Yeah. Well, and I didn't care, but with this trip coming up and then us taking, a granddaughter soon, well, and then we got a universal trip coming up at the later
Nick:year. And then, yeah.
Joni:so I didn't know if we were gonna be keeping our first cruise we had scheduled, which it's still, it's still there. We haven't. Pulled the plug on canceling. But, um, in the event that we do end up canceling that one to substitute something else, I just kind of wanted the experience
Nick:and mm-hmm.
Joni:the reporting for the verandas.
Nick:Yeah.
Joni:but I certainly don't mind the inside state rooms because I Aren't those the one that had the port windows, that had the little
Nick:yeah, they have like the port windows or like, think, there's like cartoon, not like cartoon programming, but like a starfish will come by and, you know, stuff like that. Yep.
Joni:Well, and I think at sometimes they, they put on there, if I'm not mistaken, they put on there, um, a view of the front of the boat. Yes,
Nick:I think they do.
Joni:So it always looks like, you know, so it's not like so dark in your room. You can have the water and you can shut it off if it's annoying while you're
Nick:you can turn it off. I've been on an inside state room on the Royal Caribbean, and they're fine, you know, if you're not gonna be in your room much'cause there's so much to do on a cruise ship. But they are dark, very dark, very small, but they're fine, you know,'cause you're, you're not in your room much anyways. There's so much to do on those boats.
Joni:Well, and then they have another thing that I thought would be kind of neat. Um, I mean, and eventually, we'll, we will try out most of these, if not all, at, you know, throughout the time that we're doing these. But they have those big port windows that have the padding in it that you can actually sit in. That would be
Nick:really ocean view rooms. Yep.
Joni:That would be neat. Yep. Those are gigantic.
Nick:Yeah,
Joni:And I've seen some people that have the little sticky things that look like jacko lanterns that they'll
Nick:on their windows. Yep.
Joni:that's kind of cute. So, okay. Well, good deal.
Nick:All right, well let's move on to Spotlight on Attraction. What do we got this week,
Joni:Oh, this week we're gonna talk about, seven Dwarfs Mine Train.
Nick:Joni's favorite princess.
Joni:And speaking of this, actually, I just, today purchased a, not a costume, but it's kind of a, some pieces that I put together that can be worn outside of this adventure that we're going to be going on. But, I'm gonna dress as snow white for our Halloween night. I've got a yellow skirt, a blue top, and a, and a red bow headband.
Nick:I gotta be a dwarf. I'm still figuring out which df I'm gonna be. Um,
Joni:I told him he should be sleepy,
Nick:I it's sleepy, dopey or grumpy or perfect fits
Joni:But sleepy may be in the room during the party. I don't know. So I'm still, I'm still up for debate on whether I'm gonna get a wig or not. I have blonde hair. It's very long. It looks more like Rapunzel than, than, uh, snow White. But, um, I, I'm undecided and I'm a little leery about getting the spray color that that's supposed to be washable. It's not like blonde, blonde. It's got some darker tones to it, but, um, I'm just nervous about it. I don't, I don't do anything crazy to my hair.
Nick:told her just cut her hair and dye it.
Joni:yeah, that's a little
Nick:then, then when we're, when we're done with the, the Halloween crews, we'll just try to figure out how to fix
Joni:Yeah. And then the next night when I dress is Cinderella or then I'll in my blue dress with my blue headband and black choker. Then I'll be like, I need my hair back. So anyway. Today we're gonna talk about seven Dwarfs Mine Train in Fantasy Land. It's an indoor outdoor roller coaster type ride in a Swain mine car. You, travel through rolling countryside and into a diamond mine of the seven dwarfs and features sharp turns, sudden drops and stops. The height requirement is 38 inches. Kids under seven must be accompanied by a person of 14 years or older. The ride consists of five trains with each train having five cars, four riders. Per car with two per row. So basically 20 riders per train and they have five trains. So it shuffles through pretty,
Nick:Yeah. That's a big, pretty good capacity.
Joni:it is. So I will let you guys know that, if you're prone to motion sickness and whatnot, the front of the cars is going to be the least intense and, the carts near the back sway more. They put sway in quotes. Yeah. So they're gonna be more of a rocky motion. Mm-hmm. And it does say expectant mothers should not ride.
Nick:Yeah. But I think that's good advice. Yeah. I'm not a doctor, but I think that's good advice.
Joni:there's lots on here that, I've not mentioned this, but you know, when you think a seven dwarf, you're like, oh, that's okay for me to go on. But it, it's, so I thought I would. Specify this one. Just for those moms who are expecting, who might think that it's mild enough,
Nick:Mm-hmm.
Joni:it really does say you should be like, you're not gonna put a pregnant mommy on Tron, or, I don't know, maybe you are. But anyway, this is a single pass, ride, which means it's a standalone purchase that is separate from the Lightning lane passes. So you can either purchase a single pass or stand in the standby queue. In the regular line, accessibility is that you must be able to transfer from a wheelchair or your electric scooter and transfer into an access, vehicle that is available. It is an action figure ride. And I think, I'm trying to remember in the ride where it's at, I think it's when you're coming down, after you go up the high hoe and then the,
Nick:I think it's when you come out of there
Joni:You see the dwarfs and the
Nick:of the tunnel.
Joni:Yeah. You see the.
Nick:it's, I think it's that first hill out of there. Yes. That's what's in my mind.
Joni:I think you're right, because that's what I was thinking too. So it is kind of cute. It's got like, you can see the silhouettes of the dwarfs climbing through the mine holding their
Nick:Mm-hmm. Yep. and you
Joni:to hear'em singing. So, super cute. Anyway, there is a, action photo. The duration of the ride is about three minutes. It opened in Walt Disney World, May 28th, 2014. So a little bit of bonus information is that before you embark on your mind train adventure, try your hand at juul sorting, then wash them with water spigots that the, that Platos that you'll recognize. And when you come across a collection of wooden barrels, this is all in the queue as you're waiting to get
Nick:this is Yes in, go ahead. I wanna mention something at the end of this. Go ahead.
Joni:information I'm talking of is all while you're in the queue. Yeah. So when you come across a collection of wooden barrels overflowing with the glowing stones, I don't know, I think there's like seven or eight of'em maybe barrels. Yeah. Yep. And each barrel has to be being turned.
Nick:I think at a pretty good
Joni:at a pretty good rate
Nick:of
Joni:Circling and then it says to watch as the ceiling transforms above you
Nick:you. If, if all the barrels get going at a good enough speed, something happens on the ceiling. Yeah.
Joni:And, and we've talked about this before in a previous episode about this happening.
Nick:hard to, get, it's hard to get everybody
Joni:to comply because not everybody realizes or
Nick:kids that are just messing around with them and
Joni:Or they give up because you have to circle or you have to spin all of them at the same
Nick:time. Yep.
Joni:So, or it doesn't work. Yeah. But we've seen it. It's
Nick:Yeah. We've seen it.
Joni:We've seen it.
Nick:we've been there several times where we're, we're trying, trying and it's just
Joni:pep rally everybody up to do it or
Nick:And it's just nobody's
Joni:Don't scream at your neighbors if they don't wanna participate. So anyway, that's what I have for, oh, and the scene at the end, I just wanna make a mention the scene at the end when they're in the cottage and they're all dancing in there. Yeah, yeah. Right before you get ready to, get off of the ride. There's a little, there's a little surprise over to the right and you see the cottage coming up. Notice, just look at the front door when you're coming by there.
Nick:Um, the only thing I'll add to that is she was talking about the queue, which is a really, really cute queue. If you do the, if you buy the Lightning Lane single pass, you will not see any of that. You won't get to experience any of that. Now, the flip side of that is this line gets very, very long. Yeah. Um,
Joni:them having 20 people per train.
Nick:It's a very popular ride. I would suggest early entry this. Okay. Go right to it. If this is on your must do.
Joni:we've done both. We've done Lightning lane, because I don't like always doing Lightning lane on stuff because then you do
Nick:you miss the queue. Yeah.
Joni:Yeah. But you know, as in some rides like on Pirates, you can't witness, when you get off the ride, you, you don't, or when you, you don't witness them playing chess. The
Nick:The stalemate. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. And if you don't know what we're talking about, next time you're in line for Pirates of the Caribbean, ask a cast member to show you the stalemate of the two pirates. Say,
Joni:say, where's the stalemate? And they'll totally be
Nick:you right over to it. Yeah. Won't tell you what it is, but
Joni:yeah.
Nick:Cool. Well, thanks Joni. Yeah, you bet. Seven dwarfs. It's a very, it's, it's one of my, I I like it. Yeah, I like it. And um, you get going on the roller coaster and then you stop'cause you, or you slow down heavily.'cause you go into the cave with the dwarfs.
Joni:Before my dad retired, my mom used to, so I, I am one of five children. I have two sisters and two brothers, and my mom would, before my dad retired, my mom would sing the seven dwarf song.
Nick:Is she really? Yeah,
Joni:she would. Well she would put her own words in it. Yeah. And you guys are gonna learn all of our names, my whole family's names right now because I will say it to you. She would say, hi hoe. Hi hoe. It's off to work. Dad goes with Jenny Joanie, Jill John, and Joe Joe. Joe and we loved it, and she would just, so I, maybe that's why I love Snow
Nick:your snow white's
Joni:I don't know. Or maybe just she, I watched it all the time, so she knew that was one of my favorites. I don't know.
Nick:You know, it's funny, Jonie yesterday was looking for a photo in her phone and she was, she, I, you must have been back on your Facebook like over a decade. You were looking for a
Joni:furthest it would go back was
Nick:Okay, so she's back in her
Joni:and I'm looking for 2011. I
Nick:for a photo and she said, she said, okay, I posted this in, was it 2013?
Joni:What the photo I was looking
Nick:No, no, no. She found a post from, I think 2013 that said, do you think differently of me because I'm, I'm watching Snow White with nobody younger than myself.
Joni:I absolutely, I love snow. I literally was watching it by myself
Nick:This was back in, I think, 2013, you said The post was
Joni:Probably.
Nick:like, oh, how ironic.
Joni:I am not above it.
Nick:Okay. Well let's go on to our movie this week. Okay. Alright.
Joni:Well, our movie this week is going to be Rapunzel
Nick:Tangled. Tangled. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I I like
Joni:Yep. The first appearance was tangled, which premiered at a theater in Los Angeles on November 14th, 2010. And a generally release was the 24th of November, 2010. It's 100 minutes. The budget is 260 million. Box office pulled 592.5 million.
Nick:Wow.
Joni:I think that's the biggest one. I think that is the biggest one. No. Yeah,
Nick:that's high. But we are later in, you know?
Joni:Yeah. Well, yeah. Cost of living, you know, goes up
Nick:But still, yeah.
Joni:Yeah. That's crazy. conceived and proposed by Glen Keane in 2001. Directors Nathan Greeno and Byron Howard. It's loosely based on the German fairytale Rapunzel in the collection of folktales, published in 1812 by
Nick:The Grim. Grim. Brothers. Brothers Grim.
Joni:Yes, of course., Her age in the movie is about 17. She's, noted as free spirited, extrovert, and impulsive. She is, german, but the film is set in the fictional kingdom of Corona, which has French like visual elements. So, but it says that she's German. so kind of offsetting a little bit. Does not list an occupation because she's locked in a tower the whole
Nick:is.
Joni:She doesn't really, well, she's an artist. She likes to paint. So if I had to give her occupations,, I would say she's an artist. She can sew, she can cook, she can do all the, all the things that Pascal gets, gets annoyed with
Nick:say, she's a mother to Pascal.
Joni:Yeah. And she's, a good hide and seeker. So an animated film that reimagines the classic Rapunzel fairy tale, the story follows, Rapunzel, a young princess with long, magical hair that has power to heal and gray eternal youth. She's been locked away in a tower by Mother Gothel who keeps her hidden to maintain her own youth. When a thief named Flynn Rider stumbles into her tower, Rapunzel convinces him to help her escape. And see the floating lanterns that she's dreamed of for years along the way, they form a bond and uncover the truth about her royal heritage. The film is about self-discovery, adventure, and the power of love. And as we've already stated, her sidekicks are Pascal
Nick:Mm-hmm.
Joni:Chameleon, and Maximus is actually a horse that belongs to the kingdom, or that you know has, and he's actually after. Flynn
Nick:Mm-hmm. Yep.
Joni:So, but then they become friendly. She obviously is the daughter of King Frederick and Queen Ariana of Corona. Her spouse becomes, let's see if I can say this last name that they give him. Eugene Flynn, writer Fitzherbert.
Nick:we'll go with it.
Joni:Okay, we're just gonna call'em Eugene., There was a short film follow up called Tangled Ever After, in 2012, there was a TV series titled Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure that ran from 2017 to 2020 and a live action remake was in development, but put on hold indefinitely in April of 2025. Due to Snow White not doing
Nick:Yeah, I, I remember reading about that. Snow White got brutalized by the critics
Joni:And I won't, I have not watched it. We have not
Nick:it. No. I've, I've heard a lot of bad reviews about it. Um, I'm curious, I like to form my own opinion.
Joni:curious what listeners think about it, but I just, I mean, everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but it did not do so hot. So they were afraid that
Nick:put entangled out there would. Yeah. Yeah.
Joni:yeah. Sometimes you just gotta leave the OGs alone.
Nick:Yep.
Joni:So she does have a child,
Nick:Descendants,
Joni:her. You are correct. Ding, ding,
Nick:but was my timing right?
Joni:Right? I know. Well, her name is Ruby. And, there's also some other children that are fan created, That are also, she's got sons and daughters that, you know, some vloggers or bloggers or whatnot have, or Disney enthusiasts have. Created them
Nick:given her children. Yeah. Okay.
Joni:But, um, but Ruby is actually in the descendant, so that's the, that's the notable one. It received 42 nominations and 10 wins all together. I didn't calculate all of them, but a few are a Saturn Award, two Visual Effects Society Awards, Las Vegas Film Critic Society, and a nanny. lastly, the bonus information. The film employed a unique artistic style by blending together features of CGI and traditional animation while using non-photo realistic rendering to create the impression of a painting Before the film's release, its title was changed from Rapunzel to Tangled.
Nick:I like Tangled. I like the, I like, like the name.
Joni:Oh, yeah. And the way they got her all tangled in her hair is just absolutely perfect. Reportedly to the market. They changed it because they wanted to be a gender friendly film. And, the film received positive reviews from critics who praised animation, writing character, and musical score.
Nick:Okay. That's it. That's it. That's what I got.
Joni:That's what I got.
Nick:gonna add something
Joni:our Rapunzel girl.
Nick:This is about Tangled. And don't think this is weird'cause this is 100% true.
Joni:It's your favorite one
Nick:And I, no, one of them. Well, I do like Tangled, but I'm talking about the parks, the tangled bathrooms at Magic Kingdom. So of all the bathrooms in all Disney World, if you've never been to the Tangled bathrooms, I suggest you go. They are themed, they're tangled themed. Yeah.
Joni:It's the tower.
Nick:the towers. The towers behind the bathrooms. And it's between, if you've never been there, it's in Magic Kingdom. It's between like Peter Pan and Haunted Mansion. If you're walking to the Haunted Mansion from Peter Pan, the bathrooms are back in the corner. It's really
Joni:on the right. It's
Nick:the right, it's on the right.
Joni:if you're walking that
Nick:direction, there are hidden pascals all around that whole area. I've only found a couple.
Joni:How many do we know? Do we know how many there
Nick:don't know. How many are hidden over
Joni:going and I will look up to see.'cause we need to make a game out of that. Yeah.
Nick:So the bathrooms are, in the men, I can speak from going in the men's room. You go in the men's room and all the wanted posters that you see in the movie are up in the men's room. Flynn and,, the other two guys that he originally is with. So yeah, they're, I know that's kinda weird. You're talking about what bathrooms are cool in Disney World, but those are some cool bathrooms.
Joni:Me, I, I think they're cool. But me, a bathroom's a bathroom is, as long as it's not a porta-potty, a bathroom's a bathroom. If I gotta go, I gotta go. Okay. So I found, I've got some. There are 10 hidden pascals. 10, yes.
Nick:10 hidden PA in that whole area.
Joni:In the tangle themed rest area of magic Kingdom located in the fantasy land near their restrooms. These camouflage chameleon figures blend into the scenery, making them a fun, challenging I spy game for guests to find. So
Nick:and he blends in for sure. I happened to, I found a couple, I found one waiting, for you actually outside the restroom. I just, it was raining and I looked up like for, I don't know, it was raining. So I looked up, maybe just look at the sky or whatever, and it caught my eye right away and it was not, it's not easy to find. I don't know how I saw'em.
Joni:Yeah. Well this says that, many blend into flowers, rocks, and greenery. So look high and look low, because you did find one like up toward a
Nick:It was up. Yeah, it was up. He was in a window. Yeah. Or coming out a window or something.
Joni:it says, here's, here's a couple little hints. Keep an eye on the detailed scenery, including lamp posts. Flower baskets and rock formations.
Nick:basket outside of a window is what
Joni:Okay. Subtle hints of color or shape that might belong to one of the many friends. It's a game requiring patience and keen observation to find all 10.
Nick:So, yeah, so
Joni:at some point we're gonna go through the whole smell of fence and the circus part of fantasy land. We're getting to the end of our, of our time in fantasy land. But this would be another cute thing that they could do to find the pascals, just like they do for the smell offense.
Nick:a map and check'em off. Yeah. Yeah,
Joni:Absolutely. I mean, I'm not gonna cheat because there's actually pictures of
Nick:car. Oh yeah, you can. Yeah.
Joni:But, um, that takes the fun out of it. I'm not even gonna look, I just scrolled back up because I
Nick:don't Put your phone down. Put your phone down before you start mapping.
Joni:no, I'm good. I'm good. I'm disciplined. I can, I can reframe. So that's what we have for Rapunzel.
Nick:That's tangled. Thanks Jonie. Yeah., This week's tipper trick is, it's very, I think it's very helpful. Well, they're all helpful, but, so if you're going to Disney World with toddlers,
Joni:obviously
Nick:you're gonna take a stroller. You, you pretty much have three options with a stroller. You can take your own, you can rent one from Disney or you can rent one from, there's a. Several in the Orlando area that you can rent stores from, and they will drop'em off to your resort and pick them up.
Joni:Mm-hmm.
Nick:My tip is Mark your store. With something, whether it be tie a balloon on the handle, whether, which, I don't know how much
Joni:recommend the balloons. I, I know we see it all the time, but you're hitting yourself in the face, the people behind you in the face,
Nick:it's just so unfortunate that you have to consider theft. It's so unfortunate, but it's a very real thing. What we did, we had, when we have some tie dye,
Joni:tie dye
Nick:tie bandanas, and we tied them to the handle of our stores, because once you park your store, you may have know exactly where you parked it. It may not be there when you get out.
Joni:Because the cast members will move it to make room,
Nick:especially if
Joni:it's in a spot where it's gonna hinder people's traffic. If it's a danger for somebody tripping
Nick:y Yep. They will move them and they will not tell you they're moving them. It's know, it's their job. They're, they gotta keep everybody safe and pathways clear. So Mark, you're, you know, and this is especially true at Fantas, at Hollywood Studios, that's stroller. Getting your store after that show is an absolute nightmare. Yeah.
Joni:Yeah. And we were even parked toward the front.
Nick:were parked in a pretty good spot and it was still a nightmare. But yeah, just put something identifying on your store. Yeah. So you can find it easily or more easy than you would be able to without it. Yeah.
Joni:Yeah. Yeah. Well, and I didn't, I mean, we, we've seen people just as a general, like putting, we left backpacks in there. Um, we never had anything taken. No. We were leery
Nick:We were, yeah. But I, I wouldn't do it again. I think, I don't know. I don't know why we did that.
Joni:Well, we, we did it, we took the kids' backpacks so that they would have something to do
Nick:No, I mean, I don't know. I don't know why we left them in the strollers.'cause we did that a few times and I think we got extremely lucky. I, I
Joni:I think we got, I was, we were actually kind of worried though at some point, but people leave their popcorn buckets and different things like that. But, oh, and another thing I would suggest what it, when we rented we, for an extra cost. You could get the cover.
Nick:The rain cover.
Joni:The rain cover. Um, what was like five
Nick:like three bucks or something. Yeah. Something very, very
Joni:get it, get it, get it, get it.
Nick:Yeah.'cause we rented from, an outside company, that delivered to the resort. You, like I said, you can rent from Disney. And it's fine. They just, they don't look very comfortable for a child. For one, they're plastic.
Joni:They look more spacious. They look.
Nick:look spacious, but they're, and there's no storage on them.
Joni:no storage. And they're, they're wider rather than They're wide.
Nick:And they just, I don't, they don't look very comfortable. I mean, they're fine if that's what you wanna do. And there, I
Joni:got a 15-year-old that wants to ride in a stroller, it's great for them.
Nick:but we found it cheaper to rent from an outside company and have it delivered for the week than it would've been renting one from Disney every day. We
Joni:But in, but we did, uh, because it does rain daily, we did get the, um, rain cover. The rain cover also just to keep it dry so your kiddos aren't sitting in bubbles.
Nick:puddles
Joni:Wet soggies. Yeah. And your stuff's not all getting wet because you, we'd have, we had to change of clothes in there because of the fireworks, in case anybody got chilly blankets to sit on. Different things like that. Popcorn. We don't want soggy, wet popcorn. But another thing about those pickup places for the strollers. You, what do you, what do you suggest If they have an early flight out and they, but
Nick:we did. We
Joni:We had, I, that's why I'm saying it because we had, you have to be there to release your stroller to the pickup, but if you're leaving the resort at five, six in the morning,
Nick:did, we left pop, I think at four o'clock in the morning. What we did, I was in communication with the company and I told them my situation. They said, no problem. Leave it with bell services.
Joni:Okay. So there, there's that tip on that. So even though it says you, you must be present to return it, you just have to keep the communication and, and they'll okay it for you. You just gotta let'em know.
Nick:Yep. Just don't assume. Don't just leave with Bell Services and assume because you may get a bill for aho.
Joni:Yeah. They might think you ran off with it.

Joni:I think in, in lieu of, of Gino's passing. Okay. That we have to have something that's extra exciting.
Nick:Okay, so
Joni:we're gonna do a poster.
Nick:We're doing a poster.
Joni:Yeah.
Nick:Okay.
Joni:Yeah, let's do a poster. Okay. Brighten things up.
Nick:Okay. Let me get the sheet up. Okay. This is blindsided me here.
Joni:Yes, I did.
Nick:Okay.
Joni:I just think we need to have a happy moment in, in memory of
Nick:of Gino. Okay.
Joni:Alright.
Nick:I am ready when you are. Do you have the wheel up spin?
Joni:It's already
Nick:Okay. Oh, okay. Spin, spin, spin.
Joni:Okay. Looks like we've got 36. 36. Yep.
Nick:That's our friend, Seth.
Joni:Seth, you're kidding.
Nick:Nope. That's our friend, Seth that was on the show a few episodes
Joni:Seth.
Nick:Seth, congratulations. You have won a growth chart poster. This was
Joni:not planned,
Nick:No, this was not planned at all.
Joni:We actually, at one time, when Seth came on, I had said something about having Seth spin our wheel for us, but. We didn't want anyone to think that it was Yeah.
Nick:Wanted full transparency.
Joni:And, and although I'm not keen enough to know how to manipulate something like that, I suppose there are some out there that do. So just to keep it fair and whatnot, we just wanted'cause because we, but we said at that time, well, what does Seth draws his own name or
Nick:Like, that's not gonna look good.
Joni:Good. So anyway, here you go, Seth.
Nick:Congratulations. Well con congratulations, Seth. We will be emailing you very soon and, Or texting you. Or texting you. Yeah. All right, well, we'll be back next week with more news and more tips and more movies and rides. So until then, we will talk to you real soon. Bye
Joni:everyone.
