Hello everybody. Welcome to this week's episode of the Main Street Talk podcast, your go-to podcast for all the Disney World news tips, tricks, updates, all of construction, and the seemingly never ending amounts of permits they're filing. I'm your host, Nick, and as always is Joni.
Joni:hi.
Nick:So we are down to
Joni:Two weeks? Two weeks?
Nick:weeks. We have two weeks left until our big giveaway world off. Only two posters left to give away.
Joni:That's right.
Nick:So if you have friends or family that want to get in on the contest, there's only two weeks left. We are already brainstorming for our next giveaway. Yeah. After this one,
Joni:already made a proposal.
Nick:The proposal's on the table, which went to the board, which is.
Joni:is
Nick:Myself and Joanie. So we're 50% there, so we're 50% there. We turned in all the required paperwork. So yeah, just two weeks left, two posters left. We were
Joni:Mike Wasowski.
Nick:No. Yeah, we
Joni:filled out our paperwork. Ron
Nick:that, her name. Roz Wasowski.
Joni:Yeah.
Nick:So yeah, I guess what else is exciting? I got the podcast on TikTok. Oh, nice. I have not been on TikTok since probably 2020. I just got rid of the app'cause it was, I don't know, just wasn't my thing. But I have got the podcast on there and I've been uploading videos.
Joni:Oh, nice.
Nick:So, um, that is Main Street Talk podcast is the TikTok. You can search us there.
Joni:I'm not a TikTok or I'm a TikTok scroller. So,
Nick:yeah. So I'm learning as I go, but, But yeah, it's exciting. Um, I've had a lot, we've had a lot of engagement so far,
Joni:You can fall so deep into
Nick:that. You can, you can, and you gotta limit yourself. That's why I kind of got
Joni:feel the wrinkles setting in as you're scrolling.
Nick:The first time I had a personal TikTok, I would find myself like laying in bed in it. It was an hour and a half later. Yeah, that's, and I'm still watching tiktoks. I know, but I'm laughing. I know I'm watching funny videos, but. Yeah, that's
Joni:that's right.
Nick:So, um, anyways, yeah, we've had a lot of engagement so far,
Joni:Please. TikTok responsibly.
Nick:Yeah, I'm excited. Um. It's changed since I was on it last
Joni:Well, yeah, it's been five years.
Nick:been five years. It's been, yeah, it's been five years. Yeah.
Joni:Yeah. Things change.
Nick:So that's exciting. Before we get into it, I would just like to say, if you like this podcast, please rate it and comment in your podcast player. That helps out, helps to show out, get found with other Disney World fans and anybody that just likes to listen to podcast and listen about Disney News. So with that, let's get into the news. Diving in. So we always started Magic Kingdom. In Magic Kingdom. Buzz Lightyear, space Ranger is now officially closed for refurbishment. Okay.
Joni:Okay.
Nick:will reopen in 2026.
Joni:Okay,
Nick:So that's the overhaul. They're gonna add new vehicles, blasters targets, and
Joni:I'm excited
Nick:Yeah. And I saw a picture of, the doors and there's a sign on the doors that said operations suspended, like in all like
Joni:yeah,
Nick:and like buzz light, you're. Style. Yeah, that's pretty cool. But yeah. It is closed until 2026 and also over at Magic Kingdom. This is exciting. The Beacon Barrel Pirates of the Caribbean tavern opening and reservation dates have been announced, and it's right around the corner. The opening date is gonna be Friday, August 29th. Of this year, 2025. Reservations for the pub will open on August 14th, and guests will be able to book reservations online, or the MDE, my Disney Experience app, excuse me. And it will also be open during the Halloween and Christmas parties. I believe they're gonna have time limits though. I think you can go in there. Each party, you know, your group can go in. I think I read for 45 minutes
Joni:all just sit down dinners.
Nick:It's, uh, no, it's like, I
Joni:when you said reservation,
Nick:they're, I think they're new reservations'cause it's new
Joni:Oh, okay. I gotcha.
Nick:gonna be a Saddam restaurant. I see.
Joni:Well, and let's be honest, I mean, you go, you pay extra money, you pay a lot of extra money to go to the party, and then who wants to go sit in a restaurant the entire time there anyway? I mean, enjoy
Nick:right, yeah.
Joni:Enjoy all the, the shortened lines of everything
Nick:excited to see it. Just'cause, you know, I'm a
Joni:Oh, for sure.
Nick:Big, big pirates. Not I, I like the movies, but, the ride has always been one of my favorites since I've been a child, so I'd liked all the theming of that.
Joni:So yeah.
Nick:So, uh, and along with that, the cast members, I have Magic Kingdoms, pirates of the Caribbean Attraction are getting new costumes
Joni:okay.
Nick:Okay. I have not heard a date. They're gonna be sporting these new costumes, but, uh, I saw pictures. They're, they're pretty cool. You know, they're in the old, you know. You know, piratey type Caribbean,
Joni:I don't know. I, what do you mean? You know,'cause you didn't show me.
Nick:Well, I don't, you know, what pirates were, what pirates look like. so, and there are two more sellout dates for Mickey's not so scary parties. Speaking of the parties, August 22nd and September 12th are now showing is unavailable.
Joni:so which ones are still available?
Nick:Well, they're six sold out total. I'm gonna give you those six. August 15th opening
Joni:sold out dates. Yes.
Nick:These are sold out dates. August 15th, opening night is sold out. August 17th, August 19th, August 22nd, September 12th, and of course Halloween night.
Joni:Sure.
Nick:So those are all sold out. If you're planning on going, you gotta get those tickets. These seem to be selling out quicker than usual, than I remember last year. I, I don't know. Um. Well,
Joni:Well, we went in August. When did we buy last year?'cause we went in
Nick:We bought, it was like two or three weeks
Joni:we were the ones that had our brains halfway turned off and went in August for a Halloween
Nick:Yeah, well we found, I mean, we had to, we had to go. We found flights for$37 each out of Illinois, so That's true. We found those flights and we're like,
Joni:oh, why not?
Nick:not? We have to go to the party. So we had literally had like three weeks of planning.
Joni:That's true.
Nick:But it was fine. It was fun.
Joni:Was worth it. It was
Nick:it was worth it. It was definitely worth it for sure.
Joni:For sure.
Nick:So, yeah, get those tickets sooner rather than later. And over at Hollywood Studios, I didn't really wanna nitpick at all these, but there's obviously more permits being filed over there for construction. I, the only notable one I saw that, that
Joni:they
Nick:think it's for the article I was reading, is the archway that leads into animation courtyard that, for demolition of that. So that will be the new, animation area when they get rid of Star Wars Launch Bay. And I did see, they, they're building something over near Galaxy's Edge. Nobody knows what it's like. I've looked on several websites. It's there, but nobody knows what it's, so keep an eye out for that. I, it could be something small, they could just be clearing land, I don't know. But, Disney has not released what they're doing over there. Hmm. And like I said, I don't want to, you know, nitpick at every single permit that gets filed because Disney is breaking ground very fast. But this one I found notable because they, they filed a permit for dinosaur. And the reason I found this notable was because dinosaurs still open. It's not closing until 2026. They've already filed a permit. They filed a few, but this one is notable because it's, it was filed in, I think, August 6th. I don't have that date written, date written down. I think it was filed August 6th. And it's good for a year. This permit is mainly to be focused on sets, props and audio so they know that we're pretty sure the track, the layout is gonna stay the
Joni:Right. That's what we've been told. Yeah,
Nick:'cause it's the same at, Indiana Jones in Disneyland and Tokyo. So there, there's no expected track change or. Anything.
Joni:It'll still be your jerky Worky.
Nick:Yeah. So, you know, hopefully they make it a little,
Joni:No, I don't think they're going to. I
Nick:I hope they do that. That give you whiplash.
Joni:Yeah, it does.
Nick:Um, anyway, so yeah, it's just gonna, the permits are, you know, for re theming, sets, props, like I said, audio, stuff like that. But I just thought that notable because they were already filing this in August and it's not even closed yet. So maybe they gotta do stuff behind the scenes, need permits for, I don't know.
Joni:Mm.
Nick:And that's it for Park News, but there was some big news that Disney announced outside of the parks this week. you're a sports fan, you probably know what I'm talking about. If you're not, you probably don't know what I'm talking about and you probably don't care,
Joni:Okay? But
Nick:this is big news. The Walt Disney Company announced they finalized an agreement between ESPN and the NFL network. So ESPN now owns the NFL network. Wow.
Joni:Wow.
Nick:And the NFL will acquire in the deal, NFL will acquire 10% stake in ESPN. So that's big news. The NFL network is big and, ESPN, which Disney owns ESPN, has acquired the NFL network.
Joni:Huh. Interesting. I wonder if they'll put something up in, Disney Springs.
Nick:I don't know. They used to have an ESPN zone, um, in Walt Disney World. Yeah, I don't know. And I think I did read the, they're gonna leave. So the NFL network has the NFL Red Zone, which is where you watch all the games on. They're gonna let the NFL continue to run that. Okay. Because they, you know, they do a good job of that.
Joni:Well, yeah. Why change something that's not broken? Right.
Nick:So very big news. They did say the, a question was asked of them. There's a full statement on this online. It's, it's a long statement. I wasn't gonna read the whole thing, but there is some information in there. But I did see somebody ask them if the NFL games would be continue to be free or with your, you know, your cable subscription if you get ESPN. And they said yes, but. I think there's a caveat to that because everything is turning to streaming for better or worse, it just is. So I wouldn't be surprised five years from now if, if it would be on streaming. They didn't say that,
Joni:Yeah.
Nick:that's just the direction things are going.
Joni:Mm-hmm.
Nick:So yeah, big news there in the sports world. Yeah. And the NFL is the biggest sport in the United States for sure. And also in miscellaneous news, Fantasia Gardens, the mini golf course is getting refurbed, but it will be open during refurbishment. They're not closing. The hours will be adjusted.
Joni:Do you want to let everybody who may not know where this is located?
Nick:Yeah, it is over there by the Swan and Dolphin Hotel. Okay. It's gonna be scheduled from September 9th. Through October 24th, and like I said, it will remain open, but the hours will be different. The hours are usually open from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM but from September 9th to September 23rd, they're pushing back the opening until noon. So it'll be from 12 until 10 as opposed to 10 to 10. The closing time is not changing and the hours are expected to return to normal following September 23rd. And lastly, for all you Stitch fans, the Stitch fans are, they're a bunch. There're there're many. They're out there. I'm not, not one of them, but there are a lot of Stitch
Joni:moms and pops and all the babes. All of
Nick:of them stitch stitches everywhere you look. Um, we have a date that is coming to Disney plus. You wanna guess any guesses? Nope, no guesses. September 3rd.
Joni:was gonna say November.
Nick:Were we gonna say November? Yeah. September 3rd. Leo and Stitch will be available on Disney Plus. On Disney
Joni:on Disney Plus. So we, do we have a theater release date or are we.
Nick:It's been out since May. Oh
Joni:Oh my goodness. See, I'm not a
Nick:You're not a stitchy.
Joni:not a Stitchy. I'm not,
Nick:Yeah. I think it was released in mid-May, if I'm remember right. It was supposed to be pretty good., I don't know. I heard a coworker talking about how the ending, they didn't like the ending.
Joni:I'd go watch it though. Just,
Nick:Yeah, I'm gonna watch
Joni:yeah, we're gonna watch
Nick:Yeah, I'll watch it for sure. That's it for the Disney news. ironically, I think the biggest news out of that was the ESPN thing, which
Joni:Well, depending on if you're a sports fan or not, like you had
Nick:right? I don't know that anybody knew about that. That was like all over my phone. I mean, from, you know, I have sources I get Disney news from, but then it's like my regular news that comes on my phone that was all over those.'cause it was big. So yeah, guess what time it is? I think it's that time
Joni:to
Nick:to give away a poster. Okay. Let's go.
Joni:Let's go.
Nick:It's wheel spending time. Are you ready?
Joni:am ready. I got my pickle wheel
Nick:I got my list up. Your
Joni:Or pickle? Wheel has pickle. I think I might have to go get a pickle.
Nick:I had a pickle earlier.
Joni:I made homemade pickles.
Nick:did. And they're delicious.
Joni:Okay, I'm gonna spin. Here we go guys. I
Nick:It is so exciting every
Joni:I wish they could hear it. The little thing.
Nick:yeah. No, we should put some sound effects in here. Oh
Joni:Oh, okay. 85,
Nick:85. Who do we have? We have Viet,
Joni:Viet
Nick:Viet, Viet. Congratulations. VIET.
Joni:Okay.
Nick:Viet. I'm just gonna, Viet appears in your email, one of the words in your email address, so. We will be emailing VT later this week, so congratulations, Viet, and it was Amy last week and VT this week. Getting closer. Wonderful. Getting closer.
Joni:are, it's exciting
Nick:after VT wins this, there's only one left. And vt,
Joni:you're still entered into that$50
Nick:still entered into the 50 then. Exactly, yes. You're just not eligible for the last poster, Congratulations, be it. Yeah. Now let's go over to Spotlight on Attraction. A
Joni:Hey, I have something to say. What? What's that? Why don't we, on our Facebook page, and you can give the,, full name of that in just a second. But why don't we, on our Facebook page, everybody comment, we could put, we could put a post on there about what should our next
Nick:Ooh, on our
Joni:contest be and have everyone comment. Or whoever would like some input. Sure. And we can do a drawing of those, or a good idea. Yeah,
Nick:That's a good idea.
Joni:I'm not paying for somebody to go on a cruise by any means, but, you know,
Nick:keep it within reason.
Joni:Yeah. Within reason, please, people.
Nick:now I'll have to withdraw the paperwork we put to the board though.
Joni:Oh. Oh. See, I'm just full of ideas, but I think that would be
Nick:No, I think, no, that's an
Joni:or we can.
Nick:should do that. Um,
Joni:Yeah. Just because then that way you guys get to be the ones to choose what you would like to have. Whether it be, a gift card, whether it be a fuel rod, whether it be
Nick:yeah.
Joni:A lounge fly. I might even do a lounge fly. Maybe a Tumblr or a water bottle, a cooling towels, something vacationy. Yeah, I think that's a good idea. Let's do that. So that's what we're gonna do, guys.
Nick:I will put that up. Yeah, that's a good idea. I will put it up both on our Facebook page, which is Main Street Talk, and I'll put it in the Facebook group. Disney World, Disney World Tips and Talk. You should join both because the Facebook group, the Disney World Tips and Talk is a group, so anybody can post to the page. Hm. The other one Main Street Talk is, is the podcast page where. We post and people respond to it. So, but anyway, I'll post to both. Okay. But if you have any questions about anything Disney World related, put it in the Disney World Tips and Talk.'cause that's a group where everybody can post and everybody can respond.
Joni:Yeah. And then you can get other people's ideas, other uh, listeners ideas as well and
Nick:explain this. So yeah, that's a great idea. We, I will put that up. Look for that. Um, by the time I'll put this up today, Saturday, I will put it up tomorrow on Sunday. So keep an eye out. Or if we listen to this, it was up yesterday by the time this airs.
Joni:and then, um, so we have VIA one this week. We'll have one more drawing next week. And then we have the card winner. So let's start, we will, decide what everyone's input with
Nick:with
Joni:everyone's input, what we're gonna do for the next contest by first, first episode of September.
Nick:I think that's reasonable. First or second, we'll see what kind of responses we get the first or second and we'll make a decision on what the next giveaway will
Joni:Yeah, so guys, get your, get your input in
Nick:thinking. Hats on. We're not buying a cruise
Joni:and you gotta take us with you. Yeah.
Nick:Well, yeah, if you wanna do that, I mean, we
Joni:we'll buy yours. You buy ours. Okay.
Nick:Good idea. I'll put that, I'll put that up in the morning.
Joni:Perfect. So definitely get your friends and family involved with this because. Everybody's got a, a little bit of a say
Nick:I like the participation. And, um, speaking of the participation, we are gonna have a guest on in the next two or three weeks. A listener wants to be on the show. I mentioned that last week, but, yeah, I think, yeah, we're gonna talk Seth. Yeah, we're gonna talk to Seth very, very soon. Yeah.
Joni:Yeah. There's already been some communications going back and forth. We're just kind of
Nick:just
Joni:narrowing stuff down
Nick:out and Yep. Yep.
Joni:Yep. Making everything jive.
Nick:Okay. And Janet Tell Tales with Bell was our spotlight this week. I'm gonna let you start with this one
Joni:really, because I got a lot going on here. Well,
Nick:I have what I, I have some too. Okay. But I don't want to, I'm gonna let you go and I'm
Joni:okay.
Nick:And when I go, forgive me if I repeat, but I'm gonna try not to.
Joni:Well, so I usually let, I usually let you go first because I'm better at tracking.
Nick:better at tracking. Should I go first?
Joni:I I dunno. You know what, what the, Hey. Whatever. Either one of us, Hey,
Nick:is a family friendly show.
Joni:I said, what the, Hey, what the, Hey, hey. Okay. Well I guess I'll go, yeah, go. Okay, so we have Enchanted Tells with Bell and it is an indoor interactive encounter with Bell where you relive the magic of Disney's Beauty and the Beast during an unforgettable reenactment starring be. Lumiere and you, there's no height requirement. The capacity of the show it's approximately 20 minutes. It includes a walkthrough, Maurice's Cottage, his workshop, and the Beast Library. Now, because the cottage and the workshop.
Nick:workshop
Joni:Are somewhat small, the library's larger, but because those two first rooms are somewhat small, there is a capacity and they only allow like about, it says 48 people per show. Really? Yeah. Because it's, you know, it's so
Nick:Right. But I didn't know it was that many.
Joni:I didn't
Nick:I thought it was
Joni:When we went in, yeah, when we went in, there were not that many. So what happens is the seating arrangement, once you get through the seating arrangement in the library is backless padded benches in a theater style setting. There's obviously no lightning lane for this. You know, and, for accessibility reasons, because those first two rooms are a little tight as far as. Navigating through,
Nick:They are tight
Joni:through the areas. An individual who is in an electric vehicle must be able to transfer to a wheelchair because they're easier to navigate and, get around so you're not crashing into, you know, the work bench and things like that. So in any case, they also have assisted listening devices as well as handheld captioning for those folks who may need, may need that with a little bit of a hearing impairment. There is a photo pass individual available, and this is a December 6th, 2012, opening date as part of the new fantasy expansion. So that's what I've got.
Nick:Okay. I only have a couple things to add. Oh, and I followed along very
Joni:did very well. I'm
Nick:impressed with me right now. I'm
Joni:so proud of you.
Nick:is like,
Joni:on
Nick:is basement level. Okay.
Joni:so,
Nick:So, the only thing I have to add is this was replacing a show called Story Time with Bell. Okay.
Joni:Okay. And
Nick:The attraction temporarily closed on March 12th, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it didn't reopen until February 19th, 2023.
Joni:Oh, wow.
Nick:I will add, personal experience. If you've never been in there. I the, I guess you call'em animatronics, in that first room are really, really cool. Yeah. And the participation's really cute. Yeah,
Joni:it is actually. Yeah. And to add on to what you just said about the participation, they go through and they select, audience members, children and whatnot to participate and be the characters in the story that are in the story. They get to be, they get to go up front and stand front and center stage with Bell and put on a little skit. It's super cute. And then she takes photos with them. It's just absolutely adorable.
Nick:Yeah. If you've never been in, it's a really cute show. It's a good spending of time.
Joni:I'll tell you what, me as an adult, I sat back there, I was in the last row, Nick and I were, and I was just smiling ear to ear like I was a little kid. Bell probably thought I was a weirdo.
Nick:She gets that a lot. She, she told me she gets it a lot.
Joni:That's okay though.'cause I don't care. I love me.
Nick:Yeah. Super cute show. Yeah, the kids get involved, even adults like, like Knight and stuff, like, you know, there's a knight and,
Joni:yeah, yeah. They have a, I don't know, what is it, like four or five different? Um,
Nick:yeah, there's several people they choose. Yeah. So, yeah. Very fun. They.
Joni:It is
Nick:All right. Well, that's our spotlight on attraction this week. We're still in fantasy land. I don't know how many we have left, but, we can get that knocked out. And I doing this spotlight on attraction, I am learning a lot, like back stories and you know,
Joni:Well, and then we can, we are learning a lot and then we're passing it on
Nick:Yeah.
Joni:anyone else who has those interests. But yeah, they're interesting to us, so we hope you enjoy'em as well.
Nick:Yeah. So the reason I, I started this podcast alone. The reason I started it was because, more of people on their first or second trips, you know, so they're informed as they go to the, but I'm learning a lot, especially about these attractions. So this is fun. Yeah, it
Joni:Yeah. It is. So where are we going next? What would you like to do?
Nick:We are gonna do our tipper trick of the week.
Joni:Um, okay. And then we're gonna do movie.
Nick:Oh no. We need movie. No, no. Yep. We do movie before Tipper Trick. I'm sorry. And guess what this week's movie
Joni:Oh, I wonder, can anybody guess? Can you guess, babe? What do you think it is?
Nick:Monsters Inc. Yeah. Not
Joni:know, I, I know I did the whole Wizowski thing earlier, but we're not monster.
Nick:Okay.
Joni:We are Beauty and the Beast
Nick:Beauty and the Beast
Joni:we're Beauty and the Beast.
Nick:did I not
Joni:So we have Belle and she, came out for Beauty and the Beast Show on September 29th, 1991. It's 84 minutes. The budget was 25 million. The box office pulled$451.2 million.
Nick:What year was this?
Joni:This was 1991. Wow.
Nick:That's a big number for
Joni:1991. Incredible. So directed by Gary Trusdale and Kirk Wise Screenplay by Linda Wolverton. Produced by Dan Hahn. Since it was more kid friendly. Disney based. The film on a Janine Marie La Prince Day Beaumont.
Nick:nine,
Joni:Or, I'm sorry, 1756 version, as well as some elements of the 1946 version by another gal named you. You told me it's probably pronounced Jean or it's jean. Yeah,
Nick:Yeah, Jean.
Joni:Jean in
Nick:probably Jean in, in
Joni:Yeah. Um, however, the original was written by a successful mid 18th century French fairytale writer and novelist. Gabrielle Suzanne Barba Day, Villanova.
Nick:Hold on. So, so let me understand this right. So Disney, the Disney story, that Disney story that we see in the movie in the 1990, in the nineties movie is a mashup of two stories.
Joni:Yes. And it's not the original. Original, okay. It's, it's,
Nick:stories. Okay.
Joni:So if you think about it, the original, original is number one, Disney based it on number two and three. Okay? But there are still some elements, you know, because two and three are based off of number one, so you still get some of
Nick:still get some. Right,
Joni:right? So, first one is more of an adulterer version. So that's why Disney
Nick:didn't want to touch
Joni:Yeah. Yeah. Well let's leave that alone. And that one was in 1740. So the original number one came out 1740. The ones that Disney's is based on, the first writer was 1756 and then 1946. And the first one in 1740. By the risque was part of a collection, the Young American and Marine Tails by miss Gabrielle. So the age of, in the movie Belle is 17. She's helpful, intelligent, selfish, or selfless. I'm sorry. Selfless. Oh my gosh, she's French., Her occupation, she's a reader and an inventor's daughter. And some even went on to say that she actually did some inventions on her own. As I read into.
Nick:Did you? Yeah. Other stories
Joni:that have developed, um, as a result of this one. So the storyline is an Encs disguised as a beggar offers the selfish prince of rose in exchange for shelter from a storm. He denies her and is cursed after her true form is revealed where he is transformed into a beast and is servants into household objects To break the curse, the prince must learn to love someone and gain their love and return before the last pedal falls from the enchanted rose. And if he fails, he has to stay a beast forever. So his sidekicks.
Nick:are
Joni:In the movie, um, the many servants of the castle, but notably the candelabra Lumiere,
Nick:That's my, he's my favorite.
Joni:The mantle clock is cogsworth. Okay? So these are all like, you know, totally fitting. And then we have the teapot, Mrs. Potts and her teacup son, chip, chip, chip, chip off the old block. Dad is Maurice and Bell's spouse. Hate to be a story breaker. Ends up being the beast. Guys follow up movies are Beauty and the Beast Live Action in 2017,
Nick:which is good. We watched that recently. That is very good.
Joni:It's very good. So, and then they um, they actually have children,
Nick:the beast. And um, well, prince, what's his prince? Um,
Joni:Adam, I believe is his name.
Nick:So they
Joni:have Ben their son Ben. Comes out in the descendants
Nick:Okay. And they all come out in the descendants,
Joni:Yeah. Yeah. And, um, he is of the radon kingdom, which in the descendants beast and Bell rule, the radon kingdom. So it all ties in. So the descendants is primarily under the ruling of Bell and Beast. Mm-hmm. Yeah. So in 1994, beauty and the Beast became the first Disney film adapted into a Broadway musical, which won a Tony Award and ran for 13 years. Wow. Yeah.
Nick:Wow.
Joni:Beauty and The Beast was also the first animated film to win a Golden Global Award For best motion picture and first to receive a nomination for the Academy Award for best picture. It ultimately won the best, or I'm sorry, it ultimately won the Academy Awards for Best Original score and best original song. And the song was, of course,
Nick:beauty and the Beast.
Joni:Right. So with that, I'm gonna jump over to another tab here. Um, because we were kind of touching base on all the shows that were, uh, all the films that were within the Renaissance. So we just discussed awards. So I'd like to go a little bit more into the awards that were nominated and received. So Beauty and the Beast, 1991, it was Academy Award Nominations six.
Nick:Wow.
Joni:Academy Award wins two.
Nick:That's a good two outta six.
Joni:I just named the two. Right, right. And it even gets more exciting because the Annie Award.
Nick:and if
Joni:Those of you who may not remember what the Annie Award is, the highest honor you can get for, um, a
Nick:animated
Joni:animations Yes. Nominations two wins. Two. So terrific. That was amazing. walt Disney unsuccessfully attempted to adapt Beauty and the Beast into an animated film during the 1930s and 1950s, but inspired by the success of The Little Mermaid in 1989, Disney Executive Jeffrey Katzenberg enlisted the same songwriting term. Team used in the Little Mermaid to construct the beauty and the beast. First time directors Tru stale and wise with the aid of Wolverton Beauty and the Beast became the first animated film to utilize a completed screenplay prior to storyboarding the second film to use computer animation production systems, which allow seamless blending of traditional and computer animations. Particularly when they're in the ballroom dancing. And it finished its run as the third highest grossing film of 1991.
Nick:Third highest. Third
Joni:highest. Third highest. And it was the first animated film to gross over$100 million in the us. Wow. Yeah. Pretty, pretty crazy impressive. Yeah. Then I have a little bit of bonus information so the original 1740 was inspired by a real life story of Petras Gonsalves and his bride to be Catherine. So we found this photo and we'll just these photos and we'll have Nick, put them up on the blog so everyone can,
Nick:can, will do. Yeah,
Joni:of view it
Nick:what's going on there. I got both of them.
Joni:Okay.
Nick:Okay. So we'll have that up, uh, by the time the show airs. Well, thanks Joni. That was a lot, a lot of, uh, research. I know you spent a lot of time researching these and it's a
Joni:It's a good movie though.
Nick:So on new tips and
Joni:Okay.
Nick:This is a tip or trick that I, I think a lot of first timers, look at and I know we did when we went in 2023'cause I had not been in a long time and you had never been. Is is the crowd calendars you see online? My tip is, I guess, kind of two-sided. The crowd calendars you find online are highly inaccurate anymore. I think since COVID travel habits have changed a lot, but what my tip is for, you can still use the travel calendar and this is what we use'em for.
Joni:for.
Nick:The crowd calendars will tell you when the cheer competitions are there. The run, you know, the marathons, the, um, all the extracurricular things Disney has there, where droves of people, you know, come in for Yes. Use them for that. Yeah.
Joni:Yeah.
Nick:Just, and always Disney's gonna be busy. It's always gonna be busy. Sometimes it's gonna be busier than others
Joni:and it's always gonna rain. It's
Nick:always gonna rain, but. Typically holiday like President's Day. Anytime there's a holiday, Martin Luther King Day, those are gonna be busy times. But yeah, if you wanna find out. When it's gonna be less busy, don't go during cheer competitions and, and marathons and stuff like that. Those are what the crowd calendars are good for.'cause they will tell you when they are. Mm-hmm.
Joni:Mm-hmm.
Nick:So that is my tip. Don't, don't see a crowd calendar and you see the weak is green.'cause that make them be completely false. It may be right, but it could be
Joni:It's just, there's too many variants to
Nick:too many variables. Um, people travel different now. It's, you know, that's just how it is.
Joni:yeah. Well, and that maybe those were constructed at a time where you had to make your reservations and they just kind of stuck.
Nick:Yeah. And
Joni:you know, when reservations were required and they're not, so they're not required now.
Nick:an another good way to tell when Disney expects it to be busy is ticket prices. Yes. Annual pass blackout dates. Yes. That's another way to tell when Disney's gonna be busy. So these are just tools that you can
Joni:if they're not gonna allow annual pass holders, then they're expecting heavy
Nick:expected crowds. So yeah, crowd calendars look at it for, uh, cheer competitions and, and marathons
Joni:accordingly.
Nick:Plan accordingly and just expect it's gonna be busy. And if it's not, hey. Yeah.
Joni:Yeah. There's actually been a couple times that we were there and we expected it to be a lot busier than it was, and we were quite
Nick:We were there last August. I remember Animal Kingdom we went to, we did the party, the Halloween party, and we did one Animal Kingdom Day and Animal Kingdom was dead.
Joni:We literally got off a ride, got back in line, went on the same ride, like didn't even have to
Nick:was, yeah, it was dead. And uh, I was expecting that, you know, it's August, kids were in school or kids were outta school, so it was dead. Yeah. So that's gonna do it for this week's show. Remember we are gonna post in our Facebook group and the page, what you guys would like to see in our raffle. Um, keep it within reason, let us know. We will go over it. I will withdraw our paperwork we already put into the board.
Joni:That's okay. We'll just put that other paperwork on. Pause. I like this idea better where our, our listeners get to.
Nick:I think it's a great
Joni:Get to say what they want
Nick:Yep. I think it's absolutely a great idea. So
Joni:we may, I mean, depending on the effects of it, we, we may do that one,
Nick:And we have also talked about getting a poll going together, having a weekly poll question, on our website. I'm still, talking about that and trying to figure that out, but I think that's something that's gonna happen soon. Yeah.
Joni:Maybe we can integrate our winner based on some poll participation in the future. Okay? But this one for sure, comment. All you gotta do is comment what? What do you want? Tell us
Nick:would you like to see? Keep within reason, please.
Joni:If it's with, if it's not within reason, we're just gonna scroll right by it. Okay?
